Makayla and Sean really wanted something different for their wedding rather that the usual big traditional event. Wanting to turn their special day into a memorable vacation by going somewhere new and exciting, they opted for a destination elopement! Seeking the perfect blend of romance and exploration, they chose to go outside the norm and go elope in Europe! Inspired by the enchanting landscapes showcased on Pinterest, Makayla set her sights on the picturesque Lauterbrunnen valley in Switzerland.
After careful consideration, we ultimately chose Wengen as their elopement destination. Drawn to its lesser-known charm and the absence of cars, creating a serene and intimate atmosphere it was the perfect spot to say their intimate vows. The day before their ceremony, we three embarked on a location-scouting mission last sunset, searching for the ideal spot to exchange their private vows the next day!
As the sun painted the sky in soft hues, they found their perfect setting, a secluded spot that captured the essence of their love and the breathtaking Swiss landscape.
After that, it was time to rest and get rid of that jet lag – the next day was elopement day!
Our accommodations at a local inn in Lauterbrunnen valley was so ideal. It was the perfect spot to get started early and make our way up with mountain! (I can’t highlight enough just how important choosing the right place to stay is – especially for a destination elopement in Switzerland!) While they got mostly ready at the inn, they finished putting on their wedding attire together at the top of the trail. After they were all dressed and ready they took some time to finish writing their vows to one another – infusing them with personal meaning and heartfelt promises.
The morning of their elopement arrived with a sense of excitement and joy. Hiking up to their chosen ceremony spot, they decided to change, then sit together to finish writing their vows. This was honestly one of my favorite moments to witness. The quietness as they sat in a wide open field, hearing nothing but the morning birds.
Once they felt ready, they exchanged their intimate vows in a private ceremony, enveloped by the beauty of nature and the stillness of the early morning. It was a moment of profound connection and intimacy, shared between just the two of them. Switzerland proved to be the ideal location for their adventurous destination elopement.
After their vows and enjoying the sunrise, we went back to the inn for a delicious breakfast, then took some time to REST! A short nap rejuvenated us before we left on another adventure to Oeschinen Lake. This lake is INSANE. These two really wanted something around water. So as I started to look into lakes around the area, this was one we all fell in love with.
The journey involved a scenic gondola ride and a leisurely hike through the woods, ending up at the breathtaking sight of an alpine lake!
Our timing was impeccable, encountering minimal crowds and soaking in the tranquility of the pristine surroundings. We explored the beach, then sat to have a little picnic while enjoying the incredible views round us.
As the weather turned, we made our way back to Lauterbrunnen – making sure to stop by Staubach Falls! And then they indulged in delectable Swiss donuts, the perfect ending to a perfect elopement day!
Makayla and Sean’s elopement was a perfect blend of adventure and intimacy, reflecting their shared love for exploration and meaningful experiences. It was a day filled with heartfelt moments, breathtaking scenery, and the joy of celebrating their love in a truly special way. It was so special to see their destination elopement dreams come to life! And what’s even cooler, is that they are already planning their trip back for their anniversary!
