Amanda and Matt had always dreamed of getting married in Italy, and Lake Como was high on their list of picturesque destinations. Although Matt has visited Italy before (many times), Lake Como held a special allure they couldn’t resist. They wanted to explore the charming Italian towns around the lake, eating good food and enjoying authentic wine. And they did just that, PLUS MORE! Their elopement was a perfect blend of adventure, romance, and relaxation, capturing the essence of their love story in the stunning Italian landscape.

Exploring Menaggio: a Romantic day on the lake

The morning was relaxed and low-key, with Matt fetching pastries and coffee for them to enjoy together as they got ready. They sat out on the deck of their Airbnb and enjoyed mimosas and their treats to start off their day in a relaxed way.
After getting ready separately, they shared a heartfelt and emotional first look outside their villa. The love between these two cannot be argued. The way they look at eachother, you can just feel the sense of “wow, I’m so lucky”. Seriously… after documenting their engagement, elopement and maternity session, I am constantly emotional by the love they have for one another.

Alright, back to their Lake Como elopement day!
After getting ready, it was time to explore. Their day began with the excitement of exploring a stunning and famous villa – Villa Balbianello. Their plan to exchange vows at Villa Balbianello took us on a scenic journey by ferry.
However, upon arrival, the public venue was bustling with tourists, prompting a spontaneous change of plans. While the villa was stunning, it just didn’t feel right to share such intimate moments together in front of hundreds of people. They decided to wait for a more intimate setting and returned to their Airbnb villa, enjoying pizza and the serene beauty of Lake Como along the way!

Private Vows by the Villa
After stuffing our faces with the most delicious pizza – we made our way back to the Airbnb. Back at their villa, Amanda and Matt found the privacy and intimacy they wanted to say their personal vows to one another. We took our time wandering around the charming streets, soaking in the warm summer day IN ITALY!! A literal dream.

A gelato pit stop and exploring Menaggio
After their vows, we set off into Menaggio before their sunset boat tour. We stopped for a yummy gelato, cooling us down. As we started walking and exploring the town, they also danced to a street performer, and shared laughs and love in the adorable Italian alleyways.

A Sunset Cruise on Lake Como

As the day drew to a close, we had one last adventure: a sunset cruise. The perfect finale to their Lake Como elopement. We explored all around the Lake, seeing Bellagio from a different perspective. They lounged on the back of the boat, just taking in all of the surroundings and the incredible day they just had.

Amanda and Matt’s Lake Como elopement was a dream come true, blending adventure, romance, and the beauty of Italy into a day they will always treasure. Their journey serves as inspiration for couples seeking an unforgettable wedding experience in this enchanting destination.
Tips for Elopement in Lake Como

Dreaming of eloping in Lake Como?? I’ve got plenty of elopement planning resources to help ya plan your dream destination wedding. Here are a couple to get started for Italy and Lake Como:
- Restaurant Reservations: Call ahead and make reservations, especially during peak times. The schedules may vary during weekdays, so plan accordingly. You may find that Italian restaurants have varying opening days AND times so plan in advance! If dining out isn’t top on the priority list you can find a local grocery store!
- Vendor Recommendations: Finding reliable vendors abroad can be challenging. Start by choosing one core vendor and ask for referrals from them. This can streamline the process and ensure quality services.
- Transportation: Public transport around Lake Como is good, but it operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The last thing you want is to be stressing about finding a seat on the next bus, or wondering when it will even arrive! Consider renting a car for more flexibility and convenience during your stay.
- Accommodation: Book local and splurge! Finding the perfect place to stay can make or break your destination elopement! Choose somewhere you can easily travel to/from. And book at least 2-3 days in one location!
- Be flexible: Just like Amanda and Matt pivoted on their vows location. Elopements require a go-with-the-flow mindset. Whether that’s with the weather, the location, the privacy, or the excursion. By embracing the whole day as an ADVENTURE – I guarantee you will have a top-notch experience!
