Vermont is known for its stunning mountain landscapes and rolling fields. Most people head over to its neighboring White Mountains, which we love, too; however, Vermont tends to be a bit less crowded and less traveled, which can be ideal for more secluded elopements. Take a hike together through the Green Mountains, such as Camel’s Hump or Mount Mansfield, and enjoy the breathtaking views. You can also drive or take the gondola up to Mount Mansfield in Stowe if you don’t want to do the extreme hike and still get the breathtaking views.
Vermont is famous for its picturesque covered bridges… well, New England in general is! If you’re looking for the typical New England charm, then don’t miss visiting the local covered bridges. Take a romantic stroll hand-in-hand through one of these historic structures, such as the Brown Covered Bridge or the Taftsville Covered Bridge. Here is an amazing full list of the covered bridges in Vermont.
Vermont’s scenic byways offer unforgettable drives through charming towns, rolling hills, and beautiful countryside. Consider taking a drive along Route 100 or the Mad River Byway for a memorable experience. This can be a wonderful way to be spontaneous and stop at beautiful views, and explore the different areas that you drive by.
Pack a picnic basket with local Vermont cheeses, fresh bread, and seasonal fruits, and find a peaceful spot to enjoy a romantic picnic. Lake Champlain, the Green Mountain National Forest, and local parks are all great options.
Vermont may be a land locked state, but it has some incredible lakes to explore. Lake Champlain is a very popular lake with boats that you can rent. There are also beautiful state parks surrounding the lake, with plenty of things to do. Another great lake is Lake Bomoseen, where you can rent an antique boat and explore the unique scenery.
Vermont is loaded with stunning waterfalls and amazing swimming holes. If you’re hoping for a waterfall elopement, you’ll want to stick to late Spring or early Fall. In the Summer, it can tend to be a bit dry, and the waterfalls won’t flow as much as they do in the other seasons. However, the Summer is the perfect time to enjoy swimming holes because it can get quite hot! The humidity can overcome you, so jumping into a swimming hole can be a great break. We have loads of local spots on our Vermont location list for our couples!
Vermont is well known for its craft breweries. Take a brewery tour together and sample some of the state’s finest beers. The Alchemist, Hill Farmstead Brewery, and Zero Gravity Craft Brewery are popular choices. Vermont has a growing wine industry, and visiting a winery or vineyard can be a delightful experience. Indulge in a wine tasting session and take a leisurely stroll through the vineyards. Shelburne Vineyard and Boyden Valley Winery are excellent options. And yes… pizza is always an option too!
Treat yourselves to a couple’s spa day and indulge in rejuvenating treatments. Many resorts and spas in Vermont offer luxurious spa facilities where you can relax and unwind together. There is also a really amazing outdoor sauna and wellness experience called Savu Sauna that you can visit in Smuggler’s Notch or lakeside by Champlain. It’s an amazing way to relax before or after your adventurous day.
