I have been so freakin stoked to share Nicole and Shannon’s Summer Acadia Elopement, which was recently featured on Dancing with Her!!! Everything about this adventure elopement was a dream, including two of the sweetest brides ever! They chose to stay at the amazing Terramor Resort nearby in Bar Harbor, which I cannot recommend enough!!
Nicole + Shannon knew they wanted to plan an adventure elopement, and they were open to anywhere in the world! They wanted mild weather, not too hot or too cold, good food, near the ocean but also by the mountains. They actually decided on Portugal. But unfortunately with the climate of travel and shutdowns during their wedding planning, ultimately they chose something in the US for more peace of mind. Which is how when they landed on Acadia National Park for their elopement. Shannon had it on her bucket list for a while, and it had everything they could have ever wanted.
“We decided to elope as we wanted something intimate where the day could be about us. We could choose the location, food we wanted, and the day would simply be about our love and not pleasing other people. We wanted to be able to focus solely on each other. “
They incorporated things they loved in such an intentional way, you can’t not be inspired by their sweet summer elopement. Read on for a closer look at their day!
The two brides spent the morning getting ready together slowly and intentionally in their epic accommodation. Terramor Outdoor Resort is the BEST place to get ready for your Acadia elopement! With super fun glamping-style bungalows and a location so close to the park, it doesn’t get any better! They got their hair and makeup done on the porch, and they even helped each other put on their wedding dress. I love seeing couples break tradition and spend more time together on their wedding day.
Once the brides were finished getting ready it was time to head into Acadia! They wanted a lot of time exploring the park since it was an important part of their vision. It was on the warmer side of the day so we spent a lot of time in my favorite forest spots. The trees provided a wonderful cool shade as the ladies hiked around in their wedding dresses all day! Once we made it to the coast, they got out letters that their loved ones had written to them. It was the perfect, emotional way to include family/friends that weren’t physically present on their wedding day.
We didn’t have a specific spot chosen for the vows. Nicole really wanted to be near the water, and we wanted them to pick a place that felt right when we came to it. So we came upon the perfect secluded rocky beach around sunset, and they knew it was the spot. They stood together by the ocean and said their emotional vows, making each other cry in the sweetest private elopement ceremony. Since it was just us three there, we had two hikers sign the marriage license as witnesses. Then we dipped our toes in the ocean, and headed back to Terramor as dusk set it.
We got back to the Terramor Resort where Picnique set up a GORGEOUS elopement reception spread for the two brides. It was everything they could have wanted and more. After they cut their cake, we went outside for a few photos under the warm summer night sky. It was so romantic you guys.
There were a few things that Nicole and Shannon did to make their elopement day special to them. Starting with picking the general location, a bucket list location with plenty of coast and mountain trails to explore. Then finding the perfect ceremony spot by the ocean, a place where Nicole really wanted to find as it’s where she feels closest to her mother who passed away. And then the fun touches of booking Terramor, the adventure brides dream accommodation, and hiring the perfect vendor to fulfill their bougie picnic dreams! And don’t forget those sentimental letters they read from their family. Their Acadia adventure is such great elopement inspiration for those wanting an intentional, full day wedding with your partner. It was such an honor to be chosen to photograph their love, I had to pinch myself that I get to do this as my job!!
