Imagine starting your wedding day beneath a blanket of stars, preparing to hike up a mountain that is so important to you. That’s exactly how Brianna and Ben began their incredible Mount Willard elopement journey.
They chose Mount Willard because of their love of that specific mountain. A fond memory looking back on their proposal story at the summit. After looking through some other mountains that they could elope on, they realized that Mount Willard was too special to not do it there.

Starting at Sunrise at Mount Willard Trailhead
Being at the start of Fall, the stars were unreal as we met at Mount Willard trailhead. The air was crisp, but not too cold to be unbearable. This is my favorite part of September days. We hiked up in the dark with our headlamps and when we reached the top of Mount Willard, the view that I’ve seen too many times just never gets old. We relaxed at the top until they went their separate ways to get ready
Brianna and Ben chose to get ready separately, adding an extra touch of anticipation to their morning. They still wanted some traditional items to their non-traditional day, and a first look was one of them.
Intimate Mount Willard Elopement Vows at the Summit
As the first hints of sunrise painted the sky, we made our way to their vow location. The early morning light created a magical atmosphere that pained the sky pinks and purples. Gosh I just love this part about sunrise.
They shared their private vows as the sun began to peek over the horizon. There were tears, lots of laughs, and my favorite – peace and quiet. The moment was pure magic for them, which is my top priority. Once they were done, Brianna’s dress strap decided to join the celebration in its own way by breaking off during their first hug!
The sunrise that morning was absolutely incredilbe. The landscape before us looked like we had been transported to Yosemite, with dramatic cliffs and valleys bathed in golden light.
Adventuring, Bloody Mary’s, and Hiking Back to Trailhead
After their vows, it was time to celebrate! They brought along some special treats – Bloody Marys and apple fritters. Right in line with the beginning of Fall vibes.
They changed into their cute matching tees, then started the hike back down. Throughout the entire morning, they didn’t encounter another soul on the trail. It truly felt like Mount Willard belonged to just them.
These two often talk and look back on their hiking portion of their day. It was exactly what they wanted to experience, and I’m just so happy that they took the time to enjoy it for themselves.
Part 2 Celebration at the 1785 Inn

Mount Willard Distance & Difficulty: 3.1 mile, moderate hike. The Mount Willard trailhead is easily accessible and the hike is manageable for most skill levels. This makes it perfect for couples who want adventure without extreme difficulty.
Mount Willard Trailhead parking: It can be bit confusing at the trailhead, especially if you’re hiking in the dark. You’ll park in front of the Crawford Train Station, then the trailhead is across the train tracks. Make sure to have Alltrails downloaded and keep a look out for signs as there are other trails off of this.
